One of the hottest fisheries this time of year is Eastern North Carolina! Captain Mitchell Blake of FishIBX reports that striper fishing in the feeder rivers in the Pamlico Sound such as the Tar, Neuse, and Pamlico River are heating up. This fishery has been seeing some healthy rockfish which have started a pre-spawn run up the Roanoke and Pamlico Rivers. The best thing going in Eastern NC is a mixed bag of crappie and striper hands down! Hit up FishIBX if you want in on the action while it’s hot. Virginia closed out 2018 with a bang. The bay rockfish season came to a close December 31st but not before large rockfish hit the scales after lots of action coming from the eastside of the Bay. Between the Cape Charles area and the ocean was most successful with hooking up to these fish over the 50-pound class all the way up to a 66 pound tank!
Virginia waterways are shaping up as the Striper are stealing the show. A lot of action is being reported out of the Cape Charles area, at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, as well as the mouths of the James, York, and Rappahannock Rivers. For anglers targeting these areas, these fisheries are heating up and producing solid numbers of fish.
King Mackerel is also will also be a top species targeted for the next month especially down by the point near and the Cape Lookout area anyone looking to make that drive. The King fishing has been one of the best years on record they have had. So for anyone looking to go after this species, this has been one of the best years that anglers down South and Morehead City area have had. Very large, 9 pound to double digit size being reported at the beach and nearshore waters near the Cape Lookout area.
From the Chesapeake Bay to the Second Island, VA Beach Oceanfront down to Buxton, all of these places are catching really big Bull Drum! From the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay to Ocracoke, the Drum bite is going off! Some piers are having 20 plus fish days! The guys from the surf are also coming in with great reports.
